Broken or Cracked Tooth, Crown or Bridge:
Thoroughly clean your mouth by rinsing with warm water. Depending on the size and location of the crack or broken site, treatment may vary from bonding to root canal treatment. Apply cold compress on the area to help keep the swelling down. It is very important that you see your dentist as soon as possible. A repair may help you avoid a new crown or root canal. Call us immediately, the dentist will determine the treatment needed for your injury.
Knocked Out Tooth:
Be careful how you handle the broken tooth. Hold the tooth by the crown and gently rinse off the root of the tooth with water. Leave any tissue that may be adhering to the tooth. If possible, put the tooth back in the socket and gently hold it there until you can get in to see the dentist. If that is not possible, put the tooth in a cup of milk and get to the dentist as soon as possible.
Objects Caught Between Teeth or Between Teeth and Gumline:
Use dental floss to gently remove the object. If the item cannot be removed with dental floss, please call and get in to see the dentist.
Toothache:
Make sure your mouth is clean by gently rinsing with warm water. Use dental floss to ensure there is no food or other debris caught between the teeth. You can take Tylenol to help reduce the pain until you can get in to see the dentist.
Bitten Lip or Tongue:
Clean the area thoroughly with warm water. Apply a cold compress to help reduce swelling. If the bleeding doesn't stop, go directly to a hospital emergency room. If the bite has broken through the tissue and the tissue has separated from the mouth, put the piece in ice and take it with you to the emergency room.
